No feedback sought from states on hiking GST rates: Finance ministry – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The finance ministry on Monday clarified that no suggestions has been sought from states on the GST rates for particular objects or concerning proposals to restructure the charges.
Within the wake of some media stories stating that suggestions has been sought from states concerning a suggestion for elevating Good and Companies Tax (GST) charges on 143 objects, the ministry in an announcement stated deliberations of the panel of ministers to rationalise GST charges are ongoing and the report has not been submitted.
“It’s clarified that no suggestions from States has been sought on the GST charges for any particular objects or particular proposals to restructure the charges…,” the finance ministry stated.
It additional stated views of the states had been sought usually on the Phrases of References (ToRs) of the Group of Ministers (GoM) quickly after it was arrange in September 2021.
“A report of the Group is but to be submitted to the Council for consideration,” it added.
The GST Council had in September final 12 months arrange a panel of state ministers, headed by Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, to recommend methods to enhance income by rationalising tax charges.
