RNC Replay

Wisconsin – On Monday, former President Donald Trump and Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, were announced as the GOP’s 2024 presidential and vice presidential choices.

Trump named Vance his running mate in the afternoon, ending months of speculation. The 39-year-old Ohio senator’s youth and conservative celebrity status led to his rise to stardom as the author of “Hillbilly Elegy.”

Republicans cheered as they nominated Trump and Vance days after an assassination attempt on the former president.

An incident at a Pennsylvania campaign event over the weekend killed one man and critically wounded two. Republican speakers at the convention Monday night appealed for national unity after the massacre.

GOP senators and other officials also made their conservative case to voters, criticizing President Joe Biden’s economic management.

Teamsters president: ‘We are not beholden to anybody or any party’

On Monday night, International Brotherhood of Teamsters president Sean O’Brien called it a “honor” to address a Republican National Convention as the union’s first president.

“Today, the Teamsters are here to say we are not beholden to anyone or any party,” O’Brien added. I don’t care about criticism—it’s an honor to be the first Teamster in 121 years to speak the RNC.

Teamsters, America’s biggest, most varied union, represents public and private sector workers include public defenders, agricultural workers, construction workers, and health care workers.

The Teamsters union has not endorsed a 2024 presidential contender. Last election, they endorsed President Biden; 2016: Hillary Clinton.

Monday, hours after becoming Trump’s running mate, he told Sean Hannity his view evolved throughout the previous president’s presidency.

Charlie Kirk targets youth.

As he blasted the Biden administration for excessive house prices, Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk urged young Republican voters.

Young folks are idealists. Vision affects them. The Biden Harris vision has been observed for four years. The objective is to possess nothing and be happy, he remarked.

“Donald Trump refuses to accept this fake pathetic, mutilated version of the American dream,” he continued. “He made young people richer than ever as president, and he will again.”

Numerous surveys reveal that Biden has lost appeal with young people on the economy and Israel-Hamas relations.

“Gen Zers watching this convention on TikTok, I have a message for you. You don’t have to be poor, Kirk remarked. “Don’t accept being poorer than your parents. You needn’t be aimless and sad. Do not support politicians that lied to you and exploited your votes.”

Biden stabs Vance in interview

Joe Biden mocked Trump running mate J.D. Vance for his earlier comments of the former president in a Monday NBC News interview with Lester Holt.

Biden seems unfazed by Vance’s choice. He claimed Vance had the “same policies” as the GOP candidate.

“He’s signed on to the Trump agenda,” Biden said, citing abortion restrictions, tax cuts, and climate change denial. “Which he should if he’s running with Trump.”

Trump attends the convention via video.

In his first convention speech via video, the former president urged delegates to encourage voter turnout, even by mail if necessary.

Trump previously denounced mail-in votes, but they are now a vital GOP get-out-the-vote tool. Trump also advised Republicans to “protect the vote” against 2024 voting fraud.

“Keep your eyes open,” Trump stated in the video. The president has long erroneously claimed voting fraud affected the 2020 presidential election.

“My mother took me out of public school because she saw it was failing me,” he added. My mom battled for me to attend a private school, which provided the challenge and opportunity I needed. I want to thank her for her support.

Donalds suggested that if Trump wins in November, parents would have more control over school curriculum.

“If there was ever a time in our nation to come together, it is now with Trump,” he remarked.

Kristi Noem: Republicans ‘had to go to work’

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem said Republicans “have to get to work” to win in fall during her convention address.

“Now is the time to unite,” Noem. “And we have to get to work. We have to win the hearts and minds of every single American, wake them up with truth and with wisdom. We need to listen to them. You can’t win people over by arguing with them.”

The governor advised Republicans to communicate to family and neighbors before the election.

Glenn Youngkin: ‘Joe must go’

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin told Republicans that “Joe must go.” He praised Trump’s economy, energy, and military.

I’m proud to be a homegrown Virginian from a family, like a lot of families, with ups and downs and highs and lows. “My mom was a nurse and she was my hero. She bought our family together after my dad lost his job. At 15, washing dishes and flipping eggs. I learned that there is dignity in work.”

Virginia has been a contender for this year’s elections since businessman Youngkin beat Democratic incumbent Terry McAuliffe in the 2021 gubernatorial race, the first Republican win since 2009.

He remarked, “I believe this year, Virginia will elect another Republican (outsider) businessman as President of the United States. President Joe Biden won Virginia in 2020 after Hillary Clinton won in 2016.

‘If you didn’t believe in miracles before Saturday, believe now’

South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott told convention-goers Monday, “If you didn’t believe in miracles before Saturday, you better be believing right now,” in a Christian-themed speech.

Our God rescues. Scott noted the terrible Saturday rally shooting at Donald Trump’s event. Because the devil brought a firearm to Pennsylvania on Saturday. However, an American lion rose and roared.”

Scott dropped out of his presidential candidacy in November and was reported to be a possible vice presidential selection for Trump.

“Joe Biden is asleep at the wheel, and we’re headed over a cliff,” the senator stated Monday. “America, we deserve better.”

Katie Britt addresses parents at convention.

Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., in her convention speech criticized the Biden administration’s economy and appealed to parents and families.

“To my fellow moms and dads across America, I think we all know that raising a family is hard—add in smartphones and social media, and we already have plenty to worry about,” she added. However, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris emerged. Our lives are harder now.”

Britt had her first high-profile moment since rebutting Biden’s State of the Union speech earlier this year. After the speech in March, Britt was criticized and mocked, but Trump called her a “GREAT contrast to an Angry, and obviously very Disturbed ‘President.”

She implored Americans during the convention, “We will defeat decline, dust off our dreams and forge our future because families across our nation deserve better once again.”

“I risked my life in combat to preserve this nation,” he said of his military experience. “Now, another man risked everything to save our nation. Donald Trump is president.

Electing JD Vance would make him the second Catholic VP.

If elected, Vance would be the second Catholic vice president in U.S. history, after Joe Biden under Barack Obama, the National Catholic Register said.

Vance opposed Trump. He wrote for USA TODAY in 2016 that Trump’s people had “abandoned the faith of their forefathers and myriad social benefits that come with it.” Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s backers were more religious.
